Thirty Year Farm’s Vision
Thirty Year Farm focuses on quality mares with proven bloodlines and/or successful racing careers. Thirty Year has also had success buying proven broodmares and is home to the dams of Casa Creed, Battle of Normandy and Cugino. Understanding that speed can’t be ignored in today’s game, Thirty Year looks for crosses that will produce just that, as well as strong two-turn runners. Being small allows us to pay attention to the details. We take time with our young horses teaching them partnership, curiosity, and communication. Our goal is to be the absolute best NY Bred breeding program, regardless of size.
Our Story
Matt & Kristen’s love of horses started in their teens with a t-shirt business Matt ran at the Saratoga racetrack – America’s oldest and most beautiful. Kristen joined early on, and that T-shirt business paid for both college and their first home. Fast forward to 2018 when they start looking for a farm to fulfill their dream of a deeper involvement with both the equine athletes and the sport itself. They made the offer for Thirty Year on their thirtieth wedding anniversary with the hopes of it being a legacy business for years to come. Thirty Year Farm celebrates that concept.
Matt & Kristen started small with two employees and four broodmares. They mucked stalls and took care of the horses themselves as they developed their strategies around breeding and horse care. Their early and lasting relationships with experienced horsemen and women have helped shorten the learning curve significantly. Now typically home to 13-15 broodmares, they are well aware that the learning never stops.
Kristen is a retired executive from the medical supplies business. Matt is the founder and CEO of Esler Companies, and looks forward to the day he can spend more of his time at the farm.
